HISTORY
Massachusetts Treasure Hunting Association (MTHA) was founded by members Ed Coyne and Jack Beth in 1981. Our members now come from more than 37 Massachusetts towns or nearby states.
Meeting in Newton since 1981, MTHA welcomes all metal detecting enthusiasts to share their hobby.
Traditions include an annual Christmas party and the Govoni Treasure chest monthly drawing for the Indian Head Penny. Our yearly “frost biter” and holiday hunts; barbecue for members and other outings together.
For most of our history, we have held an annual open hunt, once named for John Govoni who was an MTHA Vice President, our Hunt-Master for years and a great guy. John also ran a “Members Only” hunt at Hopkinton State Park. Now many members join in to sponsor our Open Fall hunt in October . All hunters are welcome to join us. Details on this page.
Meeting regularly members continue to organize trips together for the day or even weeks to explore together and find treasure in the USA and around the world.
